american influence
American influence played a major role during the 1950's as most of the significant changes taken place in Australia society during the 1950's was from the American influence. Since the end of WWII the American influence drifted to Australia, this changed the ways we spent our money, entertained ourselves, socialised and dressed. This introduction of American culture raised ongoing concerns about Australia's ability to carve out its own national identity. Many of these American influences were films, clothing, toys, music and technology.
british influence
Before WWII, Britain dominated the cultural influence in Australia, most of Australia's citizens were born in Britain or had British descendants. Between 1945 and 1972, there was over one million British migrants that lived in Australia. However, before 1945 many people including Australia themselves considered Australia to be a British colony. During this period of history, our entertainment, food, fashion, sporting culture, social values and attitudes were greatly determined by the British culture.
